Ingredients
- 1/2 pound sfrozen purple hull peas
- water to cover
- ounce sfresh or frozen okra (Optional)
- ounce sbacon, cut into 1/2 inch piece s
- tablespoon white sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients. Allrecipes/Qi Ai
- Place purple hull peas into a large pot; pour in enough cold water to cover peas. Bring to a boil over high heat. Allrecipes/Qi Ai
- Add okra if using and boil for 2 minutes, stirring twice. Allrecipes/Qi Ai
- Reduce heat to medium low; add bacon, sugar, baking soda, salt, and pepper. Allrecipes/Qi Ai
- Cover and simmer until tender, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Allrecipes/Qi Ai
