State Fair Kettle Corn

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup corn oil
  • 1/4 cup unpopped popcorn kernels
  • tablespoon swhite sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon sbrown sugar
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat until hot.
  2. Add corn kernels until 2 to 3 pop; stir in white and brown sugars.
  3. Cover pot with a lid; agitate pot in a circular motion on the stove.
  4. Allow corn to pop, agitating pot constantly, until popping rate slows down to 1 pop every 2 to 3 seconds.
  5. Remove pot from the stove; shake pot until popping stops.
  6. Transfer popcorn to a large bowl; cool to room temperature.
  7. Break apart large popcorn clumps by hand; season with salt.

Tips

Be very careful when popping the corn and pouring it out of the pot. The sugar will be very hot and can cause severe burns.
