Sausage Egg Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 pound (450 g) pork sausage
  • 1 tablespoon (14 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 medium green pepper, chopped
  • 1 medium red pepper, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) minced garlic
  • 10 large eggs
  • 2 cup s (480ml) whole milk
  • 1-\1 1/2 cup s (113-170 g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon (12 g) Creole seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 g) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (4 g) baking powder
  • 1/3 cup (75 g) melted butter
  • 2 cup s (200 g) cubed bread
  • 2 green onions, slice d for an optional garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350℉ (175℃).
  2. In a large, deep skillet, cook sausage over medium high heat for about 10 minutes until they're no longer pink. They'll be crumbly and evenly browned.
  3. Drain well using a colander to remove excess grease and set aside to cool.
  4. Melt butter in the skillet, and add onions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook over medium heat until tender, 3 5 minutes. Set aside and let cool.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk eggs and milk. Stir in the sausage and sauteed vegetables. Add shredded cheese, Creole seasoning, salt, baking powder, and melted butter. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  6. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and arrange the cubed bread along the bottom. Pour the sausage and egg mixture over the bread, spreading out over the bread.
  7. Bake it for 40 45 minutes or until golden brown. The casserole will be firm, and a knife inserted in the center will come out clean. Let it rest for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy hot!
