Homemade Hot Sauce

Homemade Hot Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce dried chile de arbol
  • 2 cup sboiling water
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic clove s
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/3 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Note: REMEMBER TO WEAR GLOVES WHILE HANDLING PEPPERS!
  2. Remove the stems from 1 ounce dried chile de arbol and add them to a medium bowl. Pour 2 cups boiling water over the peppers and let them steep for a few minutes until they have been rehydrated.
  3. Add the peppers and water to a blender or food processor and blend until the peppers are fully pureed.
  4. Add the ⅓ cup chopped onion , 2 garlic cloves , ¼ cup tomato sauce , 1 tablespoon brown sugar , ¼ teaspoon cumin , 1 teaspoon chili powder , ⅓ cup white wine vinegar , and 1 pinch kosher salt to the blender and blend until pureed.
  5. Pour the mixture into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Once it is boiling, reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Remove from the heat and strain the mixture through cheesecloth before adding it to a sterilized bottle for storing.
