
Ingredients
- 1 ounce dried chile de arbol
- 2 cup sboiling water
- 1/3 cup chopped onion
- 2 garlic clove s
- 1/4 cup tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/3 cup white wine vinegar
- 1 pinch kosher salt
Instructions
- Note: REMEMBER TO WEAR GLOVES WHILE HANDLING PEPPERS!
- Remove the stems from 1 ounce dried chile de arbol and add them to a medium bowl. Pour 2 cups boiling water over the peppers and let them steep for a few minutes until they have been rehydrated.
- Add the peppers and water to a blender or food processor and blend until the peppers are fully pureed.
- Add the ⅓ cup chopped onion , 2 garlic cloves , ¼ cup tomato sauce , 1 tablespoon brown sugar , ¼ teaspoon cumin , 1 teaspoon chili powder , ⅓ cup white wine vinegar , and 1 pinch kosher salt to the blender and blend until pureed.
- Pour the mixture into a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Once it is boiling, reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Remove from the heat and strain the mixture through cheesecloth before adding it to a sterilized bottle for storing.
