Canned Apple Pie Filling

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup swhite sugar
  • cup cooking starch used for preserving, such as ClearJel
  • teaspoon sground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • cup swater
  • teaspoon ssalt
  • tablespoon slemon juice
  • dropsyellow food coloring (Optional)
  • pound sapples

Instructions

  2. Mix sugar, cooking starch, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large pan. Add water and salt and mix well. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  3. Bring to a boil and cook until thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and add lemon juice and food coloring. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  4. Sterilize canning jars, lids, and rings by boiling them in a large pot of water. Peel, core, and slice apples. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  5. Pack the sliced apples into hot canning jars, leaving a 1/2 inch of headspace. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
  6. Fill jars with hot syrup, and gently remove air bubbles with a knife. Dotdash Meredith Food Studios
