Cape Breton Blueberry Grunt

Ingredients

  • cup sfresh blueberries
  • 1/2 cup swhite sugar, divided
  • large egg
  • tablespoon sshortening
  • 1/2 cup sall-purpose flour
  • cup milk
  • teaspoon sbaking powder
  • pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place blueberries in a casserole dish; sprinkle with 1 cup sugar.
  3. Beat remaining ½ cup sugar, egg, and shortening together in a large bowl; beat in flour, milk, baking powder, and salt until evenly combined. Drop spoonfuls of batter over blueberries.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.
