Ingredients
- turnips, peeled and diced
- cup applesauce
- tablespoon sbutter, softened
- teaspoon sbrown sugar
- large eggs, beaten
- tablespoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3/4 cup ssoft bread crumbs
- tablespoon sbutter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 2 quart casserole dish.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil; add turnips. Reduce heat to low; simmer until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain.
- Transfer turnips to a large bowl; mash with applesauce, 6 tablespoons butter, sugar, eggs, salt, pepper, and half of the bread crumbs. Spoon turnip mixture into the prepared casserole dish; sprinkle with remaining bread crumbs. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven until set, about 30 minutes.
Tips
To prepare turnips in microwave, wrap each turnip in a paper towel. Cook in microwave oven on high for 8 minutes. Let turnips cool for 8 minutes. Cut tops and bottoms from turnips, peel, and dice. Casserole can be removed from oven and refrigerated until 1 hour before serving. To reheat, bake in a 350-degree F (175-degree C) oven until heated through, about 1 hour.
